PORT CLINTON — Dreamation Creations Apothecary reopened Feb. 23 after a winter shutdown, and has its shelves restocked with all natural products for body and home, including 150 bulk herbs and spices.
The shop, which opened in downtown Port Clinton in September, will have a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce on April 22.
“I hope to have 250 herbs and spices by the grand opening,” said owner Dawn Hush. “They are 99-percent certified organic, and the rest are wild foraged. I get them from the countries where they grow best.”

Hush handmakes the shop’s health and body products using certified organic oils and essential oils. Her artisan soaps are coconut oil based and come in 30 different varieties, and her lotion and body butters come in six different all-natural scents.
“My soap is very, very good for your skin,” Hush said. “I can’t keep my lotion and body butter in stock. My most popular are the Shaman, which has patchouli and sage, and Freyin, which is my rose scent. I do a limited seasonal blend, and will be coming out with my spring stuff soon.”
Hush lived in Port Clinton until she was 12 and is happy to be back in her hometown. She opened a shop in Colorado, but moved the business to Port Clinton last year.

“I traveled the country and raised my kids and ended up back here,” she said. “I saw the ‘for rent’ sign and thought maybe I should open my shop here. Everything fell into place, so I knew I was meant to be here.”
The shop sells a variety of products, including men’s products like straight razors and beard oil; beeswax candles; and reusable products for the home including wool balls that replace synthetic dryer sheets and washable, beeswax food wrap that replaces plastic wrap and tinfoil for covering bowls.
Hush also has a few vendors in the shop that sell art, bath bombs and intention balls.
“I cater to both the everyday people and the witchcraft side, too,” she said. “I myself am a kitchen witch. I like to cook and take care of people through food and what they put on their skin. You can’t take care of the outer skin without taking care of the inside, too.”
Hush believes it is important to provide the resources her customers need to help themselves.
“My big thing is to help people be able to heal themselves through education and proper products,” she said. “I help them take the power back from big pharma. I don’t charge organic prices. I think everyone should be able to afford organic products.”
Many of Hush’s customers purchase her bulk herbs and spices to create home remedies and to create healthy meals and teas. The shop’s most popular sellers are hibiscus for tea; lavender for tea and satchels; and mullein leaf.
“People kept coming in asking for mullein leaf. They use it for colds and the yuckiness of the season,” Hush said. “Lots of people buy elderberry for colds, too.”
Dreamation Creations Apothecary hosts weekly classes and events.
“We’ll have monthly tea parties,” Hush said. “We’ll have herbal remedy classes, chakra classes and reiki classes.”
Downtown Port Clinton is expected to feature several new shops this tourist season, and Hush is excited to be a part of the growth.
“I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen this season with the revitalization of downtown,” she said. “I’ve had so much positive feedback from the community.”
